In a few sentences, tell us about what you do here at ButterflyMX.
I lead software development for our Video Intercoms and Front Desk Station. My team and I work with product, design, and other engineering teams to build new features, improve reliability, and make sure everything runs smoothly for our users.
What’s your favorite part about working at ButterflyMX?
My favorite part about working here is definitely the people and our culture. I’m part of a team of amazing engineers, product managers, QA experts, and more who are both incredibly talented and super fun to be around. We put a lot of trust in each other.
I also love that we’re building something we can show off: Intercoms and other devices that work seamlessly together. Seeing them come to life and “talk” to each other is the fun type of challenge.
What’s the most significant thing you’ve learned while working here?
I’ve learned a great deal about managing large-scale deployments to our devices and how critical it is to monitor them effectively.
I’ve also learned that being fully remote doesn’t stop you from building strong connections with the people you work with. Working on a problem together through Slack Huddles leads to meaningful hangouts and hugs when you see them in person.
What’s your proudest accomplishment so far during your time at ButterflyMX?
We’ve had tons of releases, but probably my proudest is launching our slick new redesign for the Video Intercom, along with the cross functional features of the Intercoms and our Front Desk Station.
I’m also proud of how quickly we’ve grown as a company. It’s a great feeling to come across our products installed out in the wild, something that’s a lot more common now than when I first joined.
Tell us about your favorite day/event at ButterflyMX. What makes it so special/memorable?
Definitely the recent company-wide offsite in Hollywood, Florida. It was amazing to hang out with everyone in person and a crazy amount of fun.
One day in particular, a coworker and I had just finished a presentation that we had worked hard on for weeks. The day ended with much of the team chilling on the beach at sunset, followed by getting fully suit and tie dressed up for cocktails.
Really helped make new connections with teammates I’m now glad to know, and to strengthen relationships with ones I was already close to!

Fun facts about Zack
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
I’m a big fan of Ireland. My wife is from Galway, which is where I met her, and since then I’ve spent a lot of time in different parts of the country.
Irish culture is my favorite! If you can use your wit and show you’re not a standard Yank, you’ll usually be welcomed with open arms. Parts of it remind me of where I grew up in Tennessee.
Do you have a secret talent (*cough* superpower) you want people to know about?
I’ve got several small freakish ones that could eventually add up to a superpower:
- I always know what time it is within ~5 minutes without looking at a clock.
- I can convert between Fahrenheit and Celsius in my head.
- I am incapable of not being polite to ChatGPT and other AI’s. Thank you!
What is your favorite thing to do after work or on the weekends?
A bunch of good stuff. I love trying to build new things (lately a video game), boxing for exercise, disc golfing with friends, and trying to teach my nieces and nephew either some fundamentals of boxing… or math lessons (which is less well-received).
