Do you sell smart locks?
No, we do not sell smart locks. Instead, we connect with the smart locks your property is already using. This way, your property staff, residents, and visitors can use ButterflyMX to easily manage access into and throughout your entire property.
If you need to purchase smart locks, we work with a nationwide network of smart lock distributors that can help you select and purchase the right smart locks that also connect to ButterflyMX. If you need assistance purchasing smart locks for your property, contact our sales team.
Do you install smart locks?
No, we do not install smart locks. If you need help installing your smart locks, we work with a nationwide network of smart lock installation partners who can help you. To find a certified smart lock installer in your area, contact our sales team.
Which smart locks do you connect to?
We currently connect to a wide variety of smart locks including those manufactured by Salto, Dormakaba, Schlage, and Yale. For more information on all the smart locks we connect to, please review our supported smart locks list.
Is building-wide, property-managed WiFi required?
Not always. Some smart locks, like the Yale Pro® 2, can work without building-wide WiFi by using a Bluetooth connection. However, many other smart lock integrations do require property-managed WiFi to enable remote management and real-time access updates. For the best experience, we recommend discussing your lock model and connectivity needs with our sales team.
Is it possible for the residents or tenants to provide WiFi?
No, residents’ or tenants’ unit WiFi cannot be used to support most smart lock integrations. While some locks can operate without WiFi by using a Bluetooth connection, many integrations still require a building-wide, property-managed WiFi network.
Does ButterflyMX support offline smart locks (no internet connection)?
Yes, ButterflyMX now supports certain offline smart locks that connect directly to a resident’s smartphone without requiring a WiFi connection. However, most other smart lock integrations still require a building-wide, property-managed internet connection. Please contact our sales team for more information about which smart locks we currently integrate with.
Which ButterflyMX access credentials work with smart locks?
Our smart lock integrations allow property staff, residents, and visitors to use ButterflyMX Door PINs, Bluetooth, Swipe-to-Open, and key fobs (depending on the smart lock). Learn more ways to open your doors, gates, and elevators with ButterflyMX.
What happens if the internet goes out at your property?
After your WiFi smart locks have been installed and integrated, valid ButterflyMX access credentials, such as Door PINs and Bluetooth, will continue to work even if your building-wide internet is down. However, features that require an internet connection, such as Swipe-to-Open, will not work.
